Lifejackets

A lifejacket like this is the single most important piece of safety equipment worn by crew members. An approved lifejacket provides buoyancy and will keep the wearer upright – even when unconscious – and afloat until rescued. The jackets worn by the crew of the "St. Brendan" are equipped with a strobe light, reflectors and a whistle for attracting attention, and an oral inflation tube for increasing or decreasing buoyancy. They also have 3 point fastening safety straps and a grab loop which makes it easier for lifeboat crew to haul a casualty into the boat.

A lifejacket is now a legal requirement for any person on the water aged 16 or under. Whilst not a legal requirement for those over 16, it is strongly recommended that everybody who takes part in a water-based activity wears an approved lifejacket.
