Bantry Inshore Search and Rescue Association is a declared resource of The Irish Coast Guard, which audits the training and equipment used by BISRA, approves it for use in Irish Waters, and specifies the uses and limitations, if any, that may be applicable to the activities of BISRA. The Irish Coast Guard also assists in training exercises involving the use of its Sea King rescue helicopter based at Shannon. In June 2001, and again in July 2003, the helicopter and BISRA undertook training exercises involving air-lifting casualties from the Bantry Rescue Boat to the helicopter, and returning them to the Lifeboat from the helicopter. The new lifeboat and crew were last audited by the Irish Coast Guard in December 2006, and the boat was approved for immediate 24 hour use. |

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution operates two nearby stations, in Baltimore and Castletown Bere. BISRA has undertaken training exercises with the Castletown Bere Lifeboat. |
